Mikal Nash is a full-time professor in the Division of Humanities/Department of History at Essex County College and a part-time lecturer in the Department of African American and African Studies at Rutgers University-Newark. His research interests include studies on African-American History, Muslim-American History, African Diaspora Studies and American cities. His most recent book is Islam among Urban Blacks: Muslims in Newark, NJ: A Social History. In 2005-2006 Nash was a participant in the American Cities and Public Spaces Project, a research institute sponsored by the Community College Humanities Association in partnership with the Library of Congress and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Nash holds two B.A. degrees—one in African-American and African Studies and a second in History from Rutgers University, and an M.A. in History from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
