Said Samatar is a professor in the History Department, and is also an affiliate faculty member of African American/African Studies. He is the author of four books and 20 essays -- all on African history and literature. He teaches a two-part survey of African history; a specialized course on South Africa since 1800; and a two-part graduate course on the conquest, colonization, and consequent anti-colonial resistance movements of Africa. He is also the managing editor of the Horn of Africa journal.
